Curtin University, Perth, WA, Australia

About this program

Curtin University's Bachelor of Advanced Biomedical Sciences (Honours) degree. This course is designed to prepare you for a career as a research scientist who specialises in biomedical or clinical science. It will challenge you to develop your critical thinking and problem solving skills, and to develop advanced hands-on laboratory skills. A core structure of research skills training runs through the course, including ethics, research planning & management, data analysis, leadership, teamwork, and communication. This is complemented by the two majors, Clinical Medical Science Major (MJRH-CLNMS) and Discovery Bioscience Major (MJRH-DBIOS) (see specific Major overviews for more details). Both majors will prepare you for a career in health related research, over a broad range of specialities. A key focus of the degree is student interaction with the research industry, including research institutes, and applied research centres. The final year of the course is a whole-year research project in which students will be based in active research laboratories, and undertake novel ‘real-world’ research projects where real bioscience or medical discoveries can be made. Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications. The honours component prepares students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
