Graduate Diploma in Forensic Science (Professional Practice)
Murdoch University, Perth, WA, Australia
About this program
The Graduate Diploma in Forensic Science (Professional Practice) is designed for those with a degree in science or a related bachelor's degree, as well as current police or forensic professionals seeking a university qualification in their field. Students complete eight postgraduate forensic coursework units, learning to reconstruct crime scenes and to collect, process, and interpret biological, chemical, and physical evidence, alongside specimen preparation, contamination control, quality assurance, statistical interpretation, and courtroom testimony. Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Forensic Science (Professional Practice) receive credit toward this diploma, requiring four further units, and units from both courses count toward the 1.5-year Master of Forensics (Professional Practice). Forensic science and criminology are not standard skilled migration occupations in Australia, and government forensic and police roles generally require citizenship or permanent residency, so graduates typically move into private-sector or government analyst roles rather than a defined migration pathway. This course is delivered by Murdoch University in Western Australia.
