Graduate Certificate In Engineering Science
University of Queensland, Brisbane, QLD, Australia
About this program
UQ's Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science is a half-year program for engineers who already hold an engineering qualification and want to build deeper technical expertise in a specific discipline, such as bioprocess, chemical or civil engineering. The flexible study plan lets students tailor their courses around their existing industry role or career direction rather than following one fixed curriculum. It functions as a shorter, lower-commitment entry point into UQ's engineering postgraduate suite, and students who want to keep studying can typically progress into a related master's degree. It suits practising engineers seeking a formal credential in a new specialisation without committing to a full two-year master's degree upfront, and completion strengthens a professional engineer's technical standing with employers in their chosen field.

Career & PR pathway
Which careers in Engineering lead to skilled migration depends on the occupation, not the degree title. See the skilled occupation lists guide for which occupations are on each list, and the points calculator to check where you stand.
Admissions
To be eligible for entry, you'll need a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline for your chosen Field of Study, or a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in engineering that includes all of the relevant discipline content. You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification. Relevant disciplines vary by field: for example Civil Engineering requires civil, chemical, environmental, mechanical or structural engineering background; Software Engineering requires software or computer engineering; Electrical Engineering requires electrical, electronic or power engineering.
