Graduate Diploma in Arts in Translation and Interpreting
University of Queensland, Brisbane, QLD, Australia
About this program
The Graduate Diploma in Arts in Translation and Interpreting is a one year, full-time postgraduate program at the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus that builds professional level translation and interpreting skills in either a Chinese-English or Japanese-English language pair. It is endorsed by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters, which matters for anyone planning to work as a certified translator or interpreter in Australia. Coursework covers translation in business and legal settings, computer assisted translation tools, digital terminology management and interpreting practice, including simultaneous interpreting for conference and international business settings, using UQ's dedicated interpreting facility. Work placements and practical training run alongside the theory. Graduates move into roles as in-house or freelance translators and interpreters, translation project managers, and interpreters in tourism, hospitality, health and legal settings, with local salary data for interpreters sitting in the 75,000 to 90,000 Australian dollar range.
