Doctor of Philosophy - Education

Murdoch University, Perth, WA, Australia

About this program

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education gives a candidate the opportunity to research a specific topic in education in depth, under the guidance of a supervisor, producing a thesis of no more than 100,000 words that makes a significant, original contribution to knowledge in areas such as curriculum, pedagogy, education policy, or learning and teaching. Candidates develop independent research skills, including formulating a research problem and applying appropriate conceptual and methodological approaches, while working with education researchers and attending national and international conferences. Secondary teaching in subjects such as maths, science, and languages remains on Australia's skilled occupation lists, though this research degree does not itself confer teaching registration, which is administered separately by each state's teaching authority. The course is delivered by Murdoch University in Western Australia.
